ICAAP9 Opening Ceremony 09 August 2009

The 9th ICAAP was held from 9th to 13th August in Bali, Indonesia. 5,547 delegates from 78 countries in the region have taken part in this five-day biennial event. The 9th ICAAP offered four main issues: understanding the epidemic and strengthening prevention efforts; strengthening partnership for treatment, care and support; understanding and addressing socio-cultural, economic and political determinants; as well as leadership and broadening the response. President of ASAP, Myung-Hwan Cho emphasised the needs for consolidating our efforts, abolishing stigma and discrimination against HIV positive, sex workers, MSM, lesbians, transgenders and people who inject drugs and also stressed the significance of harm reduction programmes.
